Samenvatting

This report highlights the importance of Euro '96 for economic regeneration and tourism development in the eight English host cities and related regions by utilising an expenditure-based multiplier approach to estimate the economic impact of this major sports event held in the England during a three week period in the summer of 1996. The data presented attempts to illustrate that a spectator intensive event can have a significant economic impact on local economies as a result of the additional expenditure generated by event-related tourists. Further the evaluation attempts to illustrate that those cities and towns not directly hosting the tournament were also substantial beneficiaries of the additional expenditure generated by the tournament.
